Comparison · Emotes
AI emote generator vs hiring an artistWhat each costs, how long it takes, and when to pick which.
Short answer: for a first set of animated emotes, an AI generator is far cheaper and faster — 8 animated emotes plus a character sheet is 10 credits here ($5.00 at the Creator pack rate) and each sheet takes about 20 seconds, while Fiverr listings we checked charged $24.60 for one animated emote with a 10-day delivery, or $61.53 for five in 5 days. Hire an artist when you want a signature, hand-drawn style, complex custom motion, or someone to iterate on sketches with you. Many streamers do both: AI to find the character and fill slots now, an artist for one or two hero emotes later.
Cheapest way to custom animated emotes: the numbers
- 1Price for one animated emote
AI here: 1 credit ($0.40–$0.67 depending on pack), after a 2-credit character sheet. Artist: $24.60 in the single-emote Fiverr listing we checked; about $12.31 each in a five-emote package.
- 2Price for 8 animated emotes
AI here: 10 credits including the sheet — $5.00 at the Creator rate, covered by the $9.99 Starter pack. Artist: $196.80 at $24.60 each (our arithmetic).
- 3Time to first result
AI here: about 20 seconds per sprite sheet, so a set in minutes. Artist: 5–10 days in the listings above, plus any queue.
- 4Changes
AI: regenerate for another credit, or tweak the brief. Artist: both listings offer unlimited revisions within their terms, with sketches approved before final art.
- 5Style
AI: a few styles applied to your character (chibi, anime, pixel, 3D toy, flat sticker, or keep yours). Artist: whatever they draw, including a style that is only theirs.
Prices for artists are from two current Fiverr listings with Fiverr’s service fees included (sources below). Independent artists outside Fiverr set their own rates, and many charge more for animation than for static emotes because every frame is drawn.
Where an AI generator wins as a Fiverr alternative
- Getting started. New Affiliates get 5 emote slots; filling them for a few dollars lets you learn what your chat actually uses before spending more.
- Testing ideas. You can try three versions of a “hype” emote in a minute and keep the one chat spams.
- Matching sets. Generating every emote from one locked character sheet keeps the face, colors and outline the same across emotes, badges and a PNGTuber.
- Technical fit. Files come out sliced and sized at 112/56/28 px for Twitch and 128 px for Discord, and are checked against size, frame and flashing limits before download.
- Seasonal extras. A holiday outfit or a new trending emote costs a credit, not a new commission.
Where hiring an artist wins
- A look nobody else has. A generator draws from styles; an artist can give your channel a hand that is recognisably theirs.
- Complex or exact motion. A specific gesture, a gag that needs precise timing, or an emote that interacts with a prop is easier to brief to a person.
- Collaboration. You approve sketches, ask for small changes and get after-sales fixes, as both listings we checked describe.
- Your own character model. If you already have a VTuber model or mascot drawn by an artist, the same artist keeps it on-model.
Before ordering, check the delivery time, number of revisions, which sizes are delivered (Twitch needs 112, 56 and 28 px, or one large file for auto-resize), whether the source file is included, and the commercial-use terms.
Using both
- 1Find the character with AI
Generate drafts and a character sheet until the look is right.
- 2Fill your slots now
Make the everyday reactions — hi, LOL, love, hype, sad — so chat has emotes this week.
- 3Brief an artist with the sheet
A clear reference sheet shortens the sketch stage and avoids paying for misunderstandings.
- 4Commission one or two hero emotes
Spend the artist budget on the emote that represents your channel, not on all eight.
Two things don’t change whichever way you go: Twitch reviews new emotes before viewers see them unless you’re eligible for instant upload, and the emote guidelines apply to AI and hand-drawn art alike.
Rights and rules
Our terms give you commercial rights to the art you generate here, and you’re responsible for what you upload: only your own pictures or ones you have permission to use, and no one else’s likeness or characters. With an artist, the rights are whatever the listing or contract says; one of the two Fiverr sellers we checked states commercial use is included by default.
Twitch checks emotes against its Emote Guidelines either way; it doesn’t ask how the art was made.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper to make emotes with AI or hire an artist?
AI is much cheaper for a set: 8 animated emotes plus a character sheet is 10 credits here ($5.00 at the Creator rate). The Fiverr listings we checked were $24.60 for one animated emote and $61.53 for five.
How long does an artist take to make animated emotes?
The two Fiverr listings we checked quoted 10 days for one animated emote and 5 days for a package of five, before any queue. An AI generator returns each sprite sheet in about 20 seconds.
Are AI emotes allowed on Twitch?
Twitch reviews emotes against its Emote Guidelines and formatting rules; those rules apply the same way to AI-made and hand-drawn emotes.
Do artist emotes look better than AI emotes?
A good artist gives you a unique style and exact motion that a generator can’t match. AI is better at speed, price and keeping a whole set consistent from one character. Many streamers use both.
Can I give an AI character sheet to an artist?
Yes. A sheet with front, three-quarter and back views plus six expressions is a clear reference, which usually makes the artist’s sketch stage faster.
Who owns AI-generated emotes?
On this site, our terms give you commercial rights to what you generate. Other tools set their own terms, and with an artist it depends on the listing or contract.
