Quick answer
Can non-affiliates use animated emotes on Twitch?
No — only Twitch Affiliates and Partners can upload animated emotes to their channel, but non-affiliates can prepare them now and use animated emotes through 7TV, BetterTTV or FrankerFaceZ. Try the make animated and static versions now →
What you can do before Affiliate
- Use 7TV, BetterTTV or FrankerFaceZ: these extensions show your animated emotes to viewers who have them installed, with no Affiliate requirement.
- Prepare your animated set now so it’s ready the day you reach Affiliate.
- Use Discord: animated server emoji don’t depend on Twitch status.
- Design the static PNG versions too; they’re what most of your Affiliate emote slots will hold at first.
How we handle it
Every animated emote you make here comes with static 112/56/28 PNGs from its clearest frame and 7TV and BTTV files in the same zip. Use the extension files now and keep the Twitch GIFs for later.
